Appreciating Eastern Redbud

Eastern redbud is a native understory species that is one of the first trees to bloom each spring.

It is perfect for use in yards and cultivated landscapes as it grows only 20 to 30 feet tall and has spectacular spring blooms. Its flowers provide nectar sources for butterflies and hummingbirds and pollen for honeybees, and the leaves are a food source for the caterpillars of the Io moth.
