Develop, lead, and promote education and public programs for the Brandywine Conservancy and Museum of Art, including Penguin Court, focusing on both environmental and multi-disciplinary topics with an emphasis on community audiences.
This is a one-year, grant-funded full-time position with benefits.
Reports to the Director of the Brandywine Conservancy and Dean of Education & Public Programs, Brandywine River Museum of Art. Works with Conservancy staff, including staff in the Preserves Penguin Court, Laurels, Waterloo Mills, Miller Farm and Birmingham Hill. Works with Museum Education staff to produce programs with nature and art themes. Works with the Department of Marketing and Communications to promote programs through social media.
- Works with key staff to develop and lead programs focused on natural resources for all audiences, both virtual and in-person. Examples include, but are not limited to, leading interpretive walks for all ages focused on environmental and conservation topics, hosting workshops and DIY activities that blend art and nature, staffing BCMA booth and developing activities for select community events, collaborating with partner organizations on education initiatives, interviewing horticulturalists and land managers to promote native plant species.
- Works with key staff to coordinate access initiatives relative to programming for the Conservancy and Museum.
- Develops and maintains partnerships with community groups and cultural organizations.
- Assists with promotion through social media.
- Assists in photographing and videotaping selected educational and public programs and editing material for use.
- Evaluates selected educational and public programs and compiles results.
- Assists as needed with education programs and events.
- Undergraduate degree, or experience equivalent, in natural resource education, natural resource management, park and recreation, or closely related field. Approximately two years of successful work experience in natural resources management and education preferred.
- A passion for conservation and the environment and a dedication to the combined mission of the Brandywine Conservancy and Museum of Art to promote both art and the environment.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, creative environment with excellent attention to detail and strong project management skills. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong teaching skills.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills and the demonstrated ability to work with and maintain positive relationships with volunteers, public agency staff, and private landowners, plus the ability to connect with audiences of all ages.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, and social media platforms. Knowledge of Altru software is helpful.
- Experience with the development and use of online learning platforms and interpretive technology including creating content for mobile sites.
- Ability to work a varied schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
- Transportation to and from the workplace and to outside sites as necessary. This position will involve being onsite at Brandywine’s Chadds Ford campus and/or Preserves as well as some possible remote work. Travel up to 25%.
