Exploring Nature through Journaling

Exploring Nature through Journaling

This online program includes a short history of nature journaling, examines what a nature journal is and is not, and proposes how attendees can use journaling to better understand the dynamic, changing natural world around them. Nature journaling is all about where science, art, the natural world, and human experience come together, and we encourage you to try it yourself. A guided activity will be provided, but you’ll need to have something handy to write or draw with, on, and about— we suggest a pen, paper, and something natural and native (acorn, pinecone, plant, view from your window or photograph, etc.), but feel free to be creative!

This program will be led by Travis Wingard, MWS Coordinator and Extension Educator, who joined Penn State Extension in January 2021 to coordinate the new Master Watershed Steward program in the Pennsylvania Wilds region. The focus of the Master Watershed Steward program in the Wilds is on public outreach & education, remote partner and volunteer connections, conservation district support, and supporting local watershed associations, memorial groups, and conservancies. Travis brings with him a background in secondary education, industrial management, staff development, and creative writing. His areas of interest are land use history and ecology.

This program is part of the “Digging Deeper: Developing a Closer Connection with Native Plantings” series for those looking to create a closer connection with native plantings in their own backyard and community. This blended virtual and in-person series offers a different perspective on ways to engage on a deeper level with your natural surroundings.

This event is open to the public and may be recorded. It is a "pay what you wish" program with proceeds benefitting Brandywine Conservancy’s education and outreach. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. Thank you for considering a donation.
