Christmas Is Here!

Christmas Is Here!

It’s Christmas time here at The Brandywine River Museum from now through January 5thand there are a number of fun family events.

On Wednesday, December 11th the museum hosted the annual Children’s Christmas Party. As the children and their families entered the museum on that brisk evening, they were greeted by different characters such as: Frosty, Rudolph, Elmo and Clifford. Music from the Kennett High School brass section filled the air with upbeat Christmas carols, as the families began to wander through the museum to see and do all the fun things offered that evening.

On the first level were the face painters who painted festive holiday themed objects on cheeks and hands. Also on this level, was the magically amazing magician who astounded his viewers with his sleight of hand. The magician kept the families entertained as they waited patiently to see none other than Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus!

On the second level of the museum were the amazing O-gauge trains which delighted young and old alike. Also on this level was the group “Makin’ Music” who played interactive songs that called for children to participate with clapping, dancing, stomping of feet and singing. So much fun!

The third level had the doll display set up in enchanting little rooms with so many little nuances to discover. On the evening of the Christmas Party, harpist Mary Groce played elegant music to listen to and enjoy as families saw the dolls.

The ground level of the museum was certainly a favorite place during the party as the lecture room was transformed into Cookie Land! Thousands of cookies were piled high on large platters along with trays of carrots, celery, cheese and grapes. The room smelled amazing, as volunteers popped fresh popcorn and handed it out to children and adults alike.

The Children’s Christmas Party was certainly a fun event for not only everyone who came to it, but for all the staff and volunteers who worked it as well. It is one of the many perks of being a member of the museum to have the chance to come and experience such a festive party! For those of you who were not able to attend the Children’s Christmas Party, there are other events going on in the next few weeks for you and your children.
