Virtual Talk with Victoria Wyeth: Among the Gulls: Jamie Wyeth and the Seagull Tradition
Join Victoria Wyeth as she shares her uniquely personal perspectives on the artwork of the Wyeths. In July Victoria will explore Jamie Wyeth’s seagull paintings within the broader tradition of artists depicting seabirds and coastal life with Dr. Amalia Wojciechowski, Assistant Director and Collections Curator at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum.
Victoria and Dr. Wojciechowski will discuss how Jamie's approach is both informed by and distinct from earlier artistic treatments of these subjects, while also considering the role that seagulls have played in his work and imagination over time. This captivating program will also feature special commentary from renowned bird expert Kenn Kaufman, who will provide insights into the behavior, ecology, and cultural perceptions of gulls that complement the art historical discussion.
Dr. Wojciechowski is the Assistant Director and Collections Curator at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum where she oversees Museum’s collection and acquisitions, as well as curating exhibitions from the permanent collection such as Hot off the Press, which is on view now. She has a PhD from Bryn Mawr College, where she wrote about the history of 19th century landscape painting. She worked previously at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Dallas Museum of Art, and the Barnes Foundation.
This event will also be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
The program will be held on Zoom and participants are invited to ask questions as part of the program. Limited time viewing of the recording will be available for those who miss the live event. Proceeds support the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art.
