Monarchs, Milkweed, and More [Ligonier, PA]

Brandywine Conservancy's Penguin Court preserve in Westmoreland County and the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art (SAMA) in Ligonier are organizing this family-friendly event that celebrates native plants and pollinators. Specifically, native bees will be highlighted this year. "Bee" sure to visit the following displays and activities:
- Monarch Butterflies - life cycle, netting, and tagging with Penguin Court
- Bees as Pollinators - puppet show with Pennsylvania Master Naturalist
- Native Bees - spinner game with Penn State Extension Master Gardeners
- Beneficial Bugs: Fireflies - info on these dazzling insects with Westmoreland Land Trust
- Natural History Fusion Mini Museum - explore it with the Carnegie Museum of Natural History
- Sweet Treats - courtesy Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce
- America's 250th - learn about special events to celebrate this milestone with Discover Westmoreland
- Plein Air Painting - watch artists paint landscape features with SAMA

Enjoy a presentation about bumblebees by Dr. Michelle Duennes of Saint Vincent College at 2 p.m. Afterwards, stay to see the honorable mentions and winners of the 5th annual Pennsylvania Pollinator Photo Challenge at 3:40.
Those with a completed "Pollinator Passport" from the Westmoreland Pollinator Partners' "Garden Gaze Days" may redeem their passport(s) for a free native plant, too (while supplies last).
