Penguin Court Book Club: "The Last Garden in England"

Penguin Court Book Club: "The Last Garden in England"

Join us at Penguin Court, in Laughlintown, for our inaugural book club meeting on Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 6:30 until 8 p.m. We will be discussing "The Last Garden in England" by Julia Kelly.

This historical fiction book is a focus of Longwood Garden’s 2024 Community Read program and highlights the garden of “Highbury House” over three generations. From the initial garden design to a place of spite and respite to rejuvenation, "The Last Garden in England" connects the women working in Highbury House’s formal garden over time.

In our activity, participants can choose one of the many “rooms” in the Highbury House Garden for inspiration and then organize a garden on that theme using provided books, templates, and other resources. We’ll talk about design principles, gardening goals, favorite plants, and more! This is a casual, friendly, organic gathering. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided, but you’re welcome to BYO.

This program will be led by Penguin Court Program Manager, Melissa Reckner, and Pennsylvania Master Naturalist, Maureen Tuttle, who is a retired librarian.
