Learn the importance of water conservation and stormwater management through the lens of climate change as you assemble your own rain barrel to take home at the Brandywine's Penguin Court Preserve in Laughlintown, PA.

After a brief presentation, Rosco Ross, a Pennsylvania Master Naturalist Trainee, and Melissa Reckner, Penguin Court's Program Manager, will help workshop participants add a rain barrel diverter and parts kit to an approximately 55-gallon barrel to take home that same day. Register soon! Capacity is limited to eight participants per workshop.

An optional follow-up workshop at the Westmoreland Conservation District’s J. Roy Houston Conservation Center in Greensburg will further discuss the impact of land development and climate change on runoff and show innovative stormwater management practices at the Center, including permeable pavement, rain gardens and a green roof. Participants may select from either August 21 or 28, 6:30-7:45 p.m., for this discussion and tour.

These workshops were financed in part by a grant from the Community Conservation partnerships Program Environmental Stewardship Fund under the administration of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Recreation and Conservation administered through the Pennsylvania Environmental Council’s Laurel Highlands Mini Grant Program.
