Wings Over Westmoreland
Wings Over Westmoreland connects two beloved events: "Hummingbird Day" and "Monarchs, Milkweed and More."
Start your day at Powdermill Nature Reserve in Rector for "Hummingbird Day" learning about colorful, fast-flying hummingbirds and their role as pollinators. Go on a hike inspired by the hummingbird migration, create pollinator-themed crafts, and find out which native plants are perfect for pollinators.
In the afternoon, head over to the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Ligonier for "Monarchs, Milkweed and More" to learn about monarch butterflies and other insects. Catch migrating monarch butterflies from SAMA's garden and see how they are tagged and recorded for science, create a diorama to understand the monarch's life cycle, play the monarch migration game, learn about the many species of milkweed native to Pennsylvania, participate in the Fluttering Flutter painting, and see the winning and honorable mentions from the Pennsylvania Pollinator Photo Challenge.
These family-friendly events are open to all ages.
