Loving the Less Lovable: Mosquitoes

Loving the Less Lovable: Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes. It’s hard to fathom that they have a purpose other than annoyance! The Westmoreland Conservation District’s West Nile Virus Coordinator, Chrissy Edwards-McCune, will share the role mosquitoes play in our ecosystem and discuss how the Conservation District is delegated from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s vector control program to monitor mosquito populations by setting various kinds of traps and sending them to a lab to be identified to species and for pathogens. Ms. Edwards-McCune will share information about these pathogens, outline control methods for larval and adult mosquitoes, and offer tips on how best to protect yourself from their bite.
