Andrew Wyeth Studio & Brinton’s Mill Tour

Andrew Wyeth Studio & Brinton’s Mill Tour

On select dates July through November 2026, the Brandywine will be offering an exclusive opportunity to tour both the Andrew Wyeth Studio and, for the very first time, the private Brinton’s Mill property—the former home of Andrew and Betsy Wyeth, located nearby in Chadds Ford—in conjunction with the upcoming By Design: The Worlds of Betsy James Wyeth exhibition. This limited tour will run on Fridays, July 3 - November 20, 2026.

A group of old stone buildings sits in an open grassy field under a bright blue sky with a few scattered clouds. The largest structure has thick stone walls and a steep roof, while a smaller barn and another house stand nearby, giving the scene a quiet, historic countryside feel.

This exclusive, guided tour experience of Brinton's Mill will be offered in collaboration with partners at the Wyeth Foundation for American Art—which owns the property. The experience will start where the story begins: the property now known as the Andrew Wyeth Studio, which was Andrew & Betsy Wyeth’s first family home, and the place where their children, Nicky and Jamie Wyeth, grew up. Continuing on to the nearby Brinton's Mill by shuttle, visitors will then experience a walking tour of the exterior of the complex, including the historic milling building as well as its mill race and the house—both extensively transformed by Betsy Wyeth to suit her design principles and in hopes of providing an inspiring working environment for her husband. The visit culminates with a visit inside the restored Granary, which was the Wyeths’ first residence on the property and was later used as a studio.

In addition to the guided tours, Brandywine is also working on offering a variety of workshops with opportunities to paint and photograph the landscape of Brinton’s Mill, which inspired Andrew Wyeth for more than four decades resulting in hundreds of works of art. This debut of a new historic environment of the Chadds Ford region is expected to develop in future years with trails, integrating it into regional networks through the efforts of the Brandywine Conservancy.
